Mairose & Steele

Rachel is a native of Kimball, South Dakota, where she grew up on her family's farm and ranch. She earned degrees in English and Political Science from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, in 2015. At Briar Cliff, Rachel was involved in campus ministry, worked in the writing center, and spent a semester studying abroad in The Netherlands. Wanting to incorporate her love of reading and writing into her career, Rachel attended the University of South Dakota School of Law. She graduated with high honors in 2018.

Rachel's professional experiences have shaped her into a well-rounded attorney. Following her first year of law school, she interned in Anchorage, Alaska, in the civil division of the U.S. Attorney's Office. The next summer, she interned at a large, multi-practice firm in Sioux Falls. After graduation, she spent a year clerking for four judges in the First Judicial Circuit Court of South Dakota. From government work to the judges' chambers, Rachel has experienced the law from many points of view. 

On January 2, 2020, Rachel was appointed as the Aurora County State's Attorney and continues to serve in that role. In addition to serving as State's Attorney, Rachel also practices in the areas of estate planning and probate, real estate transactions, income tax, and criminal defense.
